Man. How time has flown! I've had some really great experiences though recently that have helped me a lot in going forward with my art in life.
I worked hard to get ready for Faerieworlds and was very pleased with how things turned out. I made some new products that I just love.
My wonderful moment came though on the first day. The day was almost over and I was still feeling the sting of getting the booth spot I did (I was across and next to two other portrait artists). I ran across
Brian Froud as he was walking to something. I stopped and asked him if he could talk for a moment. He said he could.
We spent the next 15-20 minutes talking. I got to ask him questions I'd wondered about- "Do you have days where you question what you do? Did you ever make art just to make money?" so on and so forth. He talked about being true to oneself and trusting what you do inside. There were other things, but that is the basic gist of it.
I truly, truly appreciated his time. He mentioned how lonely the road can be for what an artist does, that people think you're crazy, but you just have to keep true to the path you choose.
I really paid attention and I still tear up when I think about it.
The rest of the day, since I wasn't doing much, I decided to sketch a picture that had been wandering around in my head and now I understood the meaning behind. I also decided it was for him, since he was wonderful enough to talk to me.
I gave it to him the next day and told him my feelings behind it. He gave me a big hug and I skittered away, feeling rather odd but extremely good.
I had followed my heart and that's all that mattered.
The rest of the festival went splendidly, I met amazing people and did some great things.
After I came back home, on the suggestion of a neighbor who already had Etsy, I have now signed up. I will be putting up some of the stuff that did not sell at Faerieworlds, but also just stuff I make and do. I hope that people not only buy, but enjoy looking at it. Its a great site and a lot of fun, so far. My etsy---->
ambermariestudios.etsy.com.
I am now packing up since we are going into a house we plan on buying, then I will be in Alaska at the end of the month! Alaska State Fair is around the corner again.
